Prepositions are the words that are used to link nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and phrases to other words in a sentence to form a proper sentence. Prepositions often indicate location, direction, time, or the way in which things relate to each other. They are used to clarify the relationship between objects or ideas in a sentence.

Preposition un words ko kaha jata hai jo kisi noun, pronoun, verb, adjective ya phrase ko dusre words se jod ke ek pura jumla banate hen. Prepositions hame jaga, disha, waqt aur chreezon ka apas me talluq batate hen.


Categories of Prepositions

Prepositions can be categorized into several groups based on their primary functions and usage. Here are some common categories of prepositions:

a) Prepositions of Place/Location (Jaga ke Prepositions): 

These prepositions describe where something is in relation to something else. Examples include "in," "on," "at," "under," "over," "between," "beside," and "behind."

Examples:

  • The book is on the table.
    • Kitab maiz ke uper hai.
  • He lives in New York.
    • Wo New York main rehta hao.
  • The ball is under the car.
    • Gaind gari ke niche hai.

b) Prepositions of Time (Waqt ke Prepositions: 

These prepositions indicate when something happens or the timing of an event. Examples include "in," "on," "at," "since," "for," "during," "before," and "after."

Examples:

  • I will come after the class.
    • Main class ke baad aonga
  • He came at 7 O’clock.
    • Wo 7 baje aata hai.
  • She takes lunch during the break.
    • Wo waqfe mein khana khati hai.

c) Prepositions of Direction/Movement (Disha/Harkat ke Prepositions): 

These prepositions describe the direction or movement of something or someone. Examples include "to," "from," "into," "across," "through," "up," "down," "along," and "around."

Examples:

    • The earth revolves around the sun.
      • Dharti suraj ke gird ghoomti hai.
    • He came here from a long distance.
      • Wo bohot door se aya hai.
    • She dived into the pool.
      • Us ne pool mein chalaang lagai.

    d) Prepositions of Agent or Instrument (Sahare ke Prepositions): 

    These prepositions indicate the agent or instrument used to perform an action. Examples include "by," "with," and "using."

    Examples:

      • My family is complete with you.
        • Mera parivaar tumhare saath mukammal hai.
      • You can not write using this pen.
        • Tum is pen ke sath nahi likh sakte.
      • He will be successful by taking my advice.
        • Wo meri salaah maan ke kaamyab ho jaega.

      e) Prepositions of Cause or Reason Waja ke Prepositions: 

      These prepositions explain the cause or reason behind an action or event. Examples include "because of," "due to," and "owing to."

      Examples:

        • I could not reach on time due to heavy rain.
          • Main tez barish ki waja se waqt pe nahi pohonch saka.
        • All of my success is because of hard work.
          • Meri kamyabi meri mehnat ki waja se hai.
        • I missed my flight owing to a traffic hold-up.
          • Meri filight traffic ki waja se miss hogai.

        f) Prepositions of Purpose (Maqsad ke Prepositions: 

        These prepositions specify the purpose or intent of an action. Examples include "for," "to," and "in order to."

        Examples:

            • Main tum se milne ke liye aya hoon.
          • This book is good for study.
            • Ye kitab parhne ke liye achi hai.
          • He can do anything in order to invite her.
            • Wo usko bulane ke liye kuch bhi kar sakta hai.

          g) Prepositions of Comparison (Tulna ke Prepositions): 

          These prepositions are used to compare one thing with another. Examples include "like," "unlike," "similar to," and "different from."

          Examples:

            • I did not commit the mistake like you did.
              • Main ne tumhare jesi ghalti nahi ki.
            • They are brothers but are different from each other.
              • Wo bhai hen par ek dusre se alag hen.
            • Her handwriting is similar to mine.
              • Uski likhai mere jesi hai.

            h) Prepositions of Condition (Stithi ke Prepositions): 

            These prepositions express a condition or circumstance. Examples include "in case of," "provided that," and "unless."

            Examples:

              • She would not start dinner unless he came.
                • Wo jub tak nahi aa jata wo khana shuru nahi karegi
              • In case of failure, you should try again.
                • Nakaami ki surat mein, tumhe dobara koshish karni chahiye.
              • He will come on time, provided that there is no traffic jam on the roads.
                • Wo waqt pe aa jaega, shart ye ke sarkon pe traffic jam na hua to.
