Present Indefinite Tense


The present indefinite tense is also called The present simple tense. It is used to describe the things that happen regularly. It also describes the state of anything or a person. It’s a way of talking about things that are true or that happen often. It is formed by using basic form (1st form of the verb) without helping verb, while making negative or interrogative sentences the helping verb "do" or "does" is used with basic form (1st form of the verb.

The present Indefinite tense is also used in State sentences. The linking verbs "is" "am" or "are" are used to make state sentences for this tense

Present indefinite tense ko present simple tense bhi kaha jata hai. Ye tense un baton ke bare mein batata hai jo rozana ya musalsal hoti hen. Present simple tense banane ke liye verb ki basic form use hoti hai aur koi helping verb use nahi hota. Negative ya Interrogative sentence banane ke liye helping verb "do" ya "does" use hota hai.
Present simple tense state sentences mien bhi use hota hai. Is tense ka state sentence banane ke liye linking verb "is" "am" ya "are" istemaal hote hen.

Formula of Present Simple Tense 

1. Positive Sentence:


Action:     Subject + Verb 1st form(+s or es with 3rd person singular)

Examples: 

  • I live in Germany. (Main Germany mein rehta hoon.)
  • He eats bananas daily.  (Wo rozana kele khata hai.)
  • John walks in the park. (John park mein tehelta hai.)

State:       Subject + is/am/are + noun/pronoun/adjective


Examples: 

    • She is happy. (Wo khush hai.)
    • They are our teachers. (Wo hamare ustaad hen)
    • I am a writer. (Main ek likhari hoon.)

    2. Negative Sentence:

    Action: Subject + Do/Does + not +  Verb 1st form


    Examples:

    • I do not like singing. (Main gaana pasand nahi karta.)
    • She does not come on time.(Wo waqt pe nahi aati.)
    • They do not know about me. (Wo mere bare me nahi jante.)

    State: Subject + is/am/are + not + noun/pronoun/adjective


    Examples: 

      • He is not a doctor. (Wo ek doctor hai.)
      • We are not comfortable here. (Hum yahan pursukoon nahi hen)
      • I am not ready now. (Main abhi tayar nahi hoon)

      3. Interrogative Sentence: 

      Action:    Do/Does + Subject + Verb 1st form +?

      Examples:

      • Do you have an extra pen? (Kya tumhre pas ek extra pen hai?)
      • Does she like tea? (Kya usey chai pasand hai?)
      • Does he drive a car? (Kya wo gari chalata hai?)

      State: Is/Am/Are + Subject + noun/pronoun/adjective +?

      Examples: 

        • Are you tired? (Kya tumthake hue ho?)
        • Am I right? (Kya main sahi hoon?)
        • Is he a player? (Kya wo ek khiladi hai?)

        Uses of Simple Present Tense:

        a) Habits (Aadat):

        • He goes to school daily.
        • I wake up at 7 AM 
        • She shouts when she is angry
        • Birds build nests to live.

        b) Universal Truths (Kainaati Sachai):

        • The sun rises in the east.
        • The earth revolves around the sun.
        • Man is mortal
        • Acid and base neutralize each other.

        c) Proverbs and General Truths (Mohawre aur Aam Sachai):

        • Honesty is the best policy.
        • Slow and steady wins the race.
        • As you sow shall you reap.
        • Let bygones be bygones.

        d) Newspaper Headlines (Akhbaron ki Surkhiyan):

        • The Great War ends.
        • America strikes back.
        • The Stock Market crashes as the government departs.
        • The atomic bomb hits Japan.

        e) Story Narration of past events or fictions (Sachi ya Banawati Kahani Sunana):

        • One day the princess goes on a walk and a beast comes and kidnaps her.
        • Then the king orders his army to attack.
        • As the lion jumps towards me another lion comes and saves my life
        • When the fisherman cuts the fish he sees a beautiful diamond
